December is such a festive month. It’s a great time to give gifts for the holidays. Dr. Leung at Lakewood Dental Trails would like to remind you to give thoughtful gifts that promote dental care.
Periodontal maintenance is important after receiving periodontal therapy. Periodontal therapy is a treatment regimen used to reach below your gums and remove bacteria and plaque before it deteriorates your tissue. This treatment is called scaling and root planing. This process helps rid your mouth of infection and restore the health of your gum tissue.
Periodontal therapy is highly successful to combat your gum disease. To ensure its success you will want to take steps toward preserving the health of your mouth and gums. You can do this by:
- Maintain the recommended follow-up appointments with Dr. Leung. If you had periodontal disease you most likely have spaces or “pockets” between your teeth and gums that will trap plaque. These areas need to remain clean and clear so they will reduce in size over time.
- Take the recommended medications prescribed to you by Dr. Leung. If prescribed, they will be used to keep your mouth healthy.
- After treatment, your teeth and gums may be a little sore. Discuss the use of special toothpastes and tools that will be gentle on your sensitive teeth and gums.
- Continue your brushing and flossing routine. Make sure you’re brushing at least twice a day and flossing at least one time per day.
As you consider giving gifts during this season, why not fill stockings with toothpaste, toothbrushes and floss? These tools will promote dental health for every member of your family. Happy holidays from our entire team at Lakewood Dental Trails.
